When gratitude is hard

Stop trying to be grateful. For some, it doesn’t come naturally, and when someone suggests making a list of things to be grateful for, this can create some grouchiness as it feels emotionally unattainable.

Instead, consider focusing on these:

Stop taking others for granted. Let’s cultivate some emotional maturity together.

Stop ruminating the past. The accuracy of the memory of it is questionable anyway. It was colored by the moods and filters of the moment.

Stop worrying about the future. Ask yourself what you literally have to do next and do it now.

Laugh. A lot. Walk away from gossip and negativity. Decide you don’t need the latter in your life.

Look for the potential and stop trying to win at being right about your obstacles and shortcomings.

Look in the mirror and say I love you to that beautiful punim.

Repeat.

Happy Thanksgiving!
